Five-minute puzzle games worth keeping

I keep a couple of puzzle games installed specifically for dead time: waiting rooms, coffee brewing, the two minutes before a call. The trick is finding ones that let you dip in and out without losing your place or your patience.

Tumble Temple has become one of my regulars. Each room is a self-contained physics puzzle, so you can solve one, put the phone down, and come back later without needing to remember anything. That's an underrated quality in a puzzle game.

What separates a keeper from a delete is whether the puzzles make you think or just make you fiddle. If you're solving by trial and error, it gets old fast. The good ones give you an 'aha' moment where you see the solution before you make the move.

My rule of thumb: if I can explain a level's rules to a friend in one sentence but still can't immediately see the answer, the design is doing its job. Tumble Temple clears that bar more often than not.
